Long ago joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe by leading the writer’s room moon knightscreenwriter Jeremy Slater has gotten a script or two for 20th Century Fox’s latest attempt to reboot The Fantastic Four Franchise business. While the end result has become one of the most ubiquitous entries in all of the superhero movies — a fact that Slater himself is well aware of — it initially featured a pair of beloved villains among long-time fans of Marvel’s First Family.
As Slater recalls with us, his original draft of the film included a live-action version of both Annihlus and Galactus, but the bad guys were quickly cut out of the film so that Dr. Doom could get more of the film’s focus.
“We had Annihilus in my original draft The Fantastic Four When they first went into negative territory they were attacked,” Slater tells us. In the first draft, Galactus attacked them and the whole scheme, Galactus had released some kind of cosmic radiation through the portal and then I found out that Galactus was somehow tracking that radiation and was on its way to Earth. “
Slater admits that the premise was “too much” for the studio, which instructed the writer to pull it off a bit.
“In the second draft, they actually came across Annihilus who was 20 feet tall and kinetic,” adds the writer. “I made it a T-Rex from Jurassic Park And the way he was going to sort of go about hunting and attacking, it seemed like he was the one who killed Victor and they barely got back through the gate in time, but it seemed like a really fun way or a fun way to use Annihilus I hadn’t seen before.”
However, the writer still hopes to see the character pay off in the end.
“For one of a thousand reasons, this was something that changed in this movie,” Slater concludes. “But the good news is that it hasn’t been used yet. It’s still around, and it’s cool. So I have no doubt that Annihilus appears at some point, it’s just a question of is it the Fantastic Four or is it part of different things from the MCU cosmic ? I do not know. “
